The IFSTA is the only international swimming and lifesaving body that represents the global interests of learn to swim associations. With 21 member countries, it provides a platform for likeminded swimming organisations to share international best practices and promote excellence in aquatic education and water safety.
Each organisation shares a commitment to reduce deaths by drowning, by improving standards in teaching swimming, lifesaving and other survival techniques. STA, as one of the founding members of the IFSTA, is therefore encouraged to see the latest statistics which show many IFSTA member countries have the lowest drowning rates in the world – see the statistics here.
Dave Candler, IFSTA CEO, says: “While there is still a lot more work to do in reducing drowning figures further, these latest statistics serve as an example of the importance of individuals and organisations throughout the world joining together to champion swimming, lifesaving and survival techniques through quality education. This is not only helping to save lives, it is also strengthening each of us and driving higher standards.”
